Holly Leafspot

Several different fungal leafspot diseases occur on Holly. Leaf spot diseases are often more damaging on plants that are stressed by adverse environmental conditions, such as winter desiccation. Maintaining the health and vigor of the plant affected with proper fertilization, watering and attention to soil pH levels is the best way to control these diseases. Removal of infected fallen leaves will help to reduce the amount of the fungus present for new infections, and help to slow the spread of the disease. Rainy weather this Spring may contribute to the problem since leaf spot diseases are usually more severe under wet conditions. In most cases, leaf spot diseases on woody ornamentals do not have a serious impact on plant health, and therefore they rarely warrant chemical control measures.
